After several weeks of warm and wet it feels like January. When Argy and I went for our walk this morning it was eight degrees and the temperature at eleven is just eighteen. When it is cold like this it gets uncomfortable to sit at my desk for long periods of time because the floor in the office is so cold. Luckily I can take a laptop in and sit by the woodstove to do my writing. I am sure that this cold snap will put a coat of ice on the lakes and ponds although we are a few days from a solid covering. The best part is some discussion of a snow storm over the weekend. So by the middle of next week the weather should be back to normal. It has been a little unreal going out in January with only a jacket and not having al of our cold weather boots taking up the floor space in the mud room. Not to mention that it is just unnatural to see open water on the ponds after Christmas.
The most recent seminar on running a guide business had a very small turnout but was great fun still. I am planning to develop a recorded version of the program that I can make available for download and as a CD in the online store. I currently offer the slides from my presentation for download and am looking forward to expanding those offerings. I will be scheduling the next seminar for early spring most likely here in Union.
My winter work as the lobbyist for the Maine Bowhunters Association and the Maine Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is off to a busy start. I received the list of bill titles that have been put in by legislators and have been reading through all two thousand plus for things that might be of interest. So far there are enough on the list to keep me plenty busy until it is time to go fishing.
I have started to take reservations for the coming season and some weeks are already starting to fill. If you know when you will be in the area and are planning a fishing or canoe trip give me a call or send an e-mail so that I can set aside a date for us to get together. The packages that I offered in conjunction with the Samoset Resort in Rockport will be offered again this coming summer. I am delighted to be working with them again.
Finally I have several new items in the online store from Igas Island. We will now have several new bags to offer and a couple of packs specifically designed for use in a canoe. Stop by the online store and take a look at the high quality items from Igas Island.
Best regards,
