How does it happen?

I almost always fish with at least two anglers in the boat; friends, couples, families more than one. On most trips the number of fish on the line pretty much evens out, not exactly but close. Sometimes though it is completely lopsided and I cannot explain it.

Yesterday was one of those times. A couple from Pennsylvania was in the boat and we were bass fishing. I always start with different lures on the different lines so I can begin the search for what works best in different places, up or down, blue or green. At any rate we started slow but soon the woman is catching fish regularly and the husband is skunked. So I begin to change lures looking for a complimentary pattern. No luck and after an hour or so I have them fishing the exact same rigs. Rods, reels, line and lures with the same result.

Eventually the husband did catch a few very small fish but could not even keep up with his spouse. I have no way to explain what it could be besides luck and I suppose that is one of the things that make fishing so interesting. As you can see it was a perfect morning to be on the water.
