A Week Learning to Fish

This week was again very busy,  most of my time  was on  freshwater with folks young and younger who were  new to fishing. Two family fishing trips on consecutive afternoons produced impressive numbers of perch, sunfish and shiners that were a delight to the kids involved. On one of the trips we also brought several nice bass and a few pickerel to the boat for pictures. Both afternoons were cloudy which I think makes spending time in the middle of the pond especially pleasant. After several weeks of standing out in the sun cloudy skies are a pleasant relief.

A striper fishing weekend

This past weekend I had a series of striper fishing trips on the Saint George. All of were successful in catching fish and the good news is that the fish are starting to head into the shallows where they are the most fun to catch. Early Saturday morning was the most successful trip of the weekend with many fish brought to the boat including several very nice fish and some beautiful Maine summer weather.

Clear skies again

After a couple of cool drizzly foggy days the weather cleared this morning. I was striper fishing in the lower Saint George and you could feel the air change and begin to dry out. The sun and blue skies did not impress the fish they were pretty much in a funk over the improved visibility and high tide. I took advantage of the nice weather and rode out to the near islands to try a few of my favorite mid summer striper spots. All about the same fish wise but a nice change of scenery anyway.
