This past weekend I had a series of striper fishing trips on the Saint George. All of were successful in catching fish and the good news is that the fish are starting to head into the shallows where they are the most fun to catch. Early Saturday morning was the most successful trip of the weekend with many fish brought to the boat including several very nice fish and some beautiful Maine summer weather.
After a couple of cool drizzly foggy days the weather cleared this morning. I was striper fishing in the lower Saint George and you could feel the air change and begin to dry out. The sun and blue skies did not impress the fish they were pretty much in a funk over the improved visibility and high tide. I took advantage of the nice weather and rode out to the near islands to try a few of my favorite mid summer striper spots. All about the same fish wise but a nice change of scenery anyway.
Today is a summer day that is for sure, the humidity is hanging in the air holding down the visibility and the temperature is in the low 90’s. Quite a change from last week when I was wondering if I should put in some more firewood to carry us through until summer arrived. If you don’t like the weather in New England just wait a minute.
