Snowshoeing!

View from Mount Battie in the snowWe are in a weather pattern that brings a snowstorm every few days that started with a blizzard last week. It is snowing today with another foot expected that will give us about four feet of new snow in a week. After a long spell in December and January with little snow winter is back! Did I mention that the temperatures? That is right downright cold; three below as a write this at eight AM.

January Blizzard

So how much snow? Always the first question I get and as of this morning at around 10 maybe a foot (just over the lower door hinge). It is snowing hard with visibility of about 100 feet or just to the end of our driveway. When I got up at a little past four this morning it was snowing and had accumulated a couple of inches. Making the current rate of accumulation pretty impressive and we are expecting it to snow all day.

Bobcat!

A pleasant winter day with less than a foot of snow on the ground and about eight inches of ice on the lake. Just cold enough to keep the snow light and fluffy a make following tracks interesting. Argy and I went for a hike on Fernalds Neck in Camden. Most of the land in the center of Megunticook Lake is part of that preserve. When guiding fishing trips on that lake I spend a lot of time looking those shores.
