This morning there can be no doubt that winter is here. I woke up at 5 a.m. with only a little snow on the ground but it was snowing steadily. By the time Argy and I went for a walk there were three or 4 inches. By late morning there is every bit of 6 inches. The current forecast calls for 12 to 18 inches of snow before this all winds down tomorrow. The wind is very strong out of the northeast out over the water but we are protected by the hill just to our east and do not get much drifting or the wind chill.
As I wind down the season and year I plan to spend a few days thinking about the future of Maine Outdoors. The first step for me is to gather the information that I will need. I like to see the financial stuff and the thoughts of my customers and of course I have a few thoughts of my own about what works, what does not and which directions to move in over the next season or two. Of course I am already committed to continuing some services by buying a new boat. (Not that I would consider for a minute not striper fishing)
My guiding season is complete the old Lund Alaskan has been sold and delivered. A new Alaskan is on order for delivery before next season and it is time to get to work in the office. I am delighted with a slower pace and a little rest is in order but sitting at my desk for stretches and simply writing or dealing with the year-end details don’t seem like much fun. The good news is that I do not have any duck hunters scheduled for the first time in many years.
